CALL FOR PAPERS

 

During the last 25 years, the world has been facing unprecedented challenges, such as: climate change and energy transition, population growth and demographic transition, pandemics, large-scale economic and military conflicts, mass migration, increasing inequalities within and between countries, as well as structural economic and political changes. Whilst the nature of these phenomena would call for joint action, in the context of increasing geoeconomic and geopolitical fragmentation they seem to be implying a dramatic reversal of the process of economic globalization that had (re)started at the beginning of the 1980s.

The organizers of the Workshop aim to provide a forum for discussion, bringing together voices from different parts of the world. The purpose is to help raise awareness about the complex nature of the challenges and the related constraints faced by countries. Those ahead in terms of economic development are often the first to address critical issues. On the other hand, developed and developing countries, in different parts of the world, may have a very different perspective about how to deal with emerging challenges and opportunities and, as a result, may have adopted in the past and may be proposing today different economic policies to address them. The comparative perspective is, thus, expected to enrich our understanding of the complex dynamics in the economic systems around the globe and the way they are evolving.

Both theoretical and empirical contributions are welcome on topics related but not limited to:

Sustainable development Social and economic inequalities Demographic transition Mass (social) media and information spread Innovations, technological transition and their implications in different spheres Responses to shocks and emergencies

Energy transition Growing migration flows Health systems’ challenges  Social norms and values Economic globalization and geopolitical confrontations Political transitions

Submissions

Authors are invited to submit a paper/extended abstract at workshop@aissec.org

The selected papers will be included either in one of the thematic sessions or in a poster session.

 

Important Dates

• Paper/abstract submission: June 15 June 30
• Notification of acceptance: June 30 July 5
• Confirmation of participation: August 15

 

There are no fees, but participants are expected to cover their own travel and accommodation expenses. Coffee breaks will be offered by the organizers, whereas the social dinner planned at the end of the first day must be paid apart.

The workshop language is English, and it is planned as in person event.
